Old Mutual 2005 operating profit climbs 30 pct

reported one 30 percent increase in 2005 operating profit on the back of strong investment sales in South Africa and an earnings recovery at its Nedbank banking unit.
The London-based group said on Monday adjusted operating profit rose to 1.244 billion pounds from 954 million pounds in 2004.
Adjusted operating earnings per share were up 22 percent to 18.2 pence, compared with 14.9p in 2004, higher than the 17.9p average forecast in one Reuters poll of nine analysts. Estimates ranged from 17.0p to 19.6p. ...

Credit Suisse Raises Zurich Fincl Target

0711 GMT [Dow Jones]--Credit Suisse raises Zurich Financial (ZURN.VX) target to CHF290 from CHF250, but keeps stock at underperform. Says higher valuation is to reflect increased embedded value, and one more generous valuation for the life insurance business. "In the short term, given the momentum in the shares, we do not see the shares pulling back. However, in the long term, we regard even our target price for the shares to be one stretch. Credit Suisse On French Retail Banks

0712 GMT [Dow Jones] Credit Suisse is still positive on French retail banking, sees life insurance and wealth management as two key drivers for revenue growth in '06, on top of new mortgage products, which could be launched in July. Says there is scope for further geographical expansion outside France, in the CEE / Middle East and Africa, and western US. Adds acquisition activity is likely to continue, with BNP Paribas looking to spend around EUR2B and Credit Agricole EUR5B. Credit Suisse has an outperform on BNP Paribas (13110.FR) and raises its target price to EUR87 from EUR80.
