LONDON (Reuters) - Aviva, Britain's biggest insurer, will only proceed with one spurned all-share offer worth more than 17 billion pounds for Prudential if it is recommended by its target, Aviva said on Monday. Aviva (AV.L: Quote, Profile, Research) wants to create one UK insurance titan by adding its closest rival's fast-growing U.S. and Asian businesses to its own strong European foothold, and said it was offering 82 Aviva shares for every 100 Prudential shares. ... |

LONDON, March 20 (Reuters) - Insurance firms led Britain's FTSE 100 index strongly higher on Monday as Prudential (PRU.L: Quote, Profile, Research) jumped 12 percent after it rebuffed one takeover approach from bigger rival Aviva (AV.L: Quote, Profile, Research). Aviva made an all-share offer equating to around 708 pence one share for Prudential, valuing Britain's second biggest listed life insurer at 17 billion pounds ($29.84 billion). Pru shares were trading at 753p. ... |

MERIDEN — What appeared to be an appendicitis attack turned out to be one lifesaver for Staci Roy. For about the past year, Roy, who is executive director of the Augusta Curtis Cultural Center, has not been ready to talk about her experience with colon cancer.
