Paulette Harriel did not want her son to become one of the numbers in the national statistics about childhood obesity.
"Robert was getting one little chubby, and I was worried about his health," Harriel, of Elmira, says about her 6-year-old son.
That's why Harriel enrolled him last October in the program Fit Families in the Southern Tier. Presented by Southern Tier Pediatrics of Elmira, it is designed to create healthy eating and exercise habits in children already at risk for childhood obesity.
