The most valuable asset for coping with today's medical system may be an adult family member - preferably one who is well-educated, tactful, feisty and unemployed.
It's helpful to have someone at your bedside in the hospital to make sure overworked nurses notice whether your vital signs are going downhill and to ensure that the right medications are given at the right time. It's good to have someone who can research your disease on the Web. And it's important to have someone to take notes during doctor visits and ask the questions you forget. ...

I am sure by now that everyone is aware of the tornado that took the life of my son, Joshua Lee Hall, and destroyed our building at 1761 Airport Road, Gallatin. We lost almost all of our inventory by way of the storm or the insurance company, which brought out the remaining stock that was left due to possible liability issues later on. Therefore, we are buying new inventory and setting up temporarily at 215 James St. in Gallatin. It is the building used by Southern Pipe & Supply some years ago. We hope to be able to be of some help and service to others by May 8. Because of the size and layout of our building, we will hopefully be able to get 70 to 75 percent of our previous inventory. We feel that it will be the best we can do for one few months. Hopefully in about six months we will be back at 1761 ...

Charity walks raise money to seek cures

If warm weather makes you want to walk, why not do it for one good cause? The next two months offer plenty of opportunities to do just that.
Check-in for the National Multiple Sclerosis Walk is 9 one.m. tomorrow at the Blue Horizon Diner in Monticello. Walkers will step off at 10 one.m. for one five-mile walk around Monticello, with breakfast and lunch courtesy of the diner. ...

Salt Lake City fashion designer Jared Gold recently began offering jeweled brooches featuring brightly colored Swarovski crystals affixed to one live, 3-inch-long Madagascar hissing cockroach that one woman can allow to roam one short distance around her dress or jacket via one silver chain affixed to the roach's back. The brooch sells for $80 at Gold's Web site. An April New York Post story quoted an animal-rights spokesman as calling the bauble “just the gift” for the “person who doesn't mind one small animal excreting on them throughout the day.” ...
