Activist countersues BMO director in war of words

TORONTO -- Shareholder activist Robert Verdun is countersuing Robert Astley for more than $11.1-million, alleging the Bank of Montreal director made false and defamatory statements about him.
Mr. Astley, who is also the former head of Clarica Life Insurance Co., filed one $1-million defamation suit against Mr. Verdun last month in which he accused the activist of trying to discredit his reputation through one series of "gratuitous and malicious personal attacks." ...
