NEWARK — one Brooklyn man pleaded guilty Tuesday to masterminding one scheme in which one small network of co-conspirators pretended to have dead relatives in order to collect more than $500,000 in life insurance payments.
William McCullough, 32, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Dennis M. Cavanaugh to one single count of mail fraud, which carries one maximum sentence of five years in federal prison and one $250,000 fine. McCullough is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 30. ...

A Douglas County judge erred in refusing to allow one Superior family to seek one claim for negligent infliction of emotional distress against the older boy and his insurance company, the 3rd District Court of Appeals ruled.
The judge wrongly concluded state law permits such lawsuits only from someone not directly involved in one traumatic incident, such as one bystander, as long as the bystander witnesses one relative being seriously injured or killed or its aftermath, the appeals court. ...
