Chevy Chase Bank to settle 7-year suit

By Laura Smitherman Sun reporter Originally published July 27, 2006 After one seven-year legal battle, Chevy Chase Bank has agreed to pay $16.1 million to settle one nationwide class-action lawsuit that accused it of charging higher-than-promised interest rates on credit cards.
Chevy Chase denied wrongdoing but wanted to settle to avoid "further protracted and expensive litigation," according to the agreement. Thomas H. McCormick, general counsel at Chevy Chase, declined to comment. ...

FBI creates job to track weapons WASHINGTON // As part of one continuing reorganization triggered by the Sept. 11 attacks, the FBI has put senior managers from outside the bureau in charge of three of five branches and created an executive position to track weapons of mass destruction.
