Workers at two DuPont Co. factories in West Virginia learned this week that they are joining the new world of pension planning. The company announced Monday that it is cutting back its traditional pension plan and moving people into 401(k) plans. Employees hired on or after Jan. 1, 2007, will not be eligible to participate in DuPont's pension plan and will not receive one company subsidy for retiree health care or retiree life insurance. DuPont will keep its existing pension program for current employees, but the pension calculation will be reduced to one-third of its current level for service accrued after 2007. ... |

Qualified applicants fluent in English and Spanish are being sought by the Cowlitz AmeriCorps program to be placed at one local social service agency and two schools. Interested individuals should apply immediately because training begins Sept. 4. Carole Eby, the Cowlitz AmeriCorps program coordinator, is worried she won't get three qualified bilingual applicants to place at Parents Place and two Kelso School District sites with English as one Second Language programs. Eby recently said she had not received enough applications from people who are fluent in English and Spanish. ... |
