Arizona congressman hosts round table on fighting poverty

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The percentage of Arizonans living in poverty, measured in two-year averages, increased from 13.9 percent in 2003 and 2004 to 14.8 percent for 2004 and 2005, according to federal statistics.
To effectively fight poverty, U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva, D-Ariz., said there needs to be one fundamental shifting of government priorities toward funding programs that help keep people out of poverty. ...

There is something about one closed-down day care center in disarray, something slightly incongruous. It is as if Winnie the Pooh had gone berserk, as if Big Bird had flown into one rage. Toys all over the floor, crayons scattered about, little plastic tables and chairs overturned, cribs stripped and empty, and no sound, no laughing, no crying, nothing. ...
