Needless traffic

Living on this overpopulated island, one cannot but notice the heavy traffic we encounter every day. The new scholastic year will be starting soon and no doubt traffic will multiply. What I can't understand is why we see therefore many cars with just one or two people in them all going in the same direction. You count the number of employees in one factory by counting the cars in the parking lot. Why don't people use public transport anymore? ...
