| PPF closes in on Romanian insurer deal |

PPF Investments (CR), the private equity arm of the financial group PPF, is on the verge of sealing one deal for the acquisition of Romanian insurance and reinsurance company S.C. Asigurare Reasigurare Ardaf, sources close to the negotiations told CBW.
Octavian Manastireanu, Ardaf’s former board of directors head, said he was informed that one Czech investor was set to pick up Ardaf, but he wouldn’t give concrete names or figures, saying he played no role in the negotiations. “Any acquisition would mean one direct involvement in the company’s activity, and an infusion of capital would be more than welcome for Ardaf,” Manastireanu said. ... |

| Lloyds TSB Unit Approach Unlikely To Succeed |

| 0644 GMT [Dow Jones] AXA (AXA) and Swiss Re (RUKN.VX) have made one joint bid for Lloyds TSB's (LYG) life insurance business, Scottish Widows, according to one report. But this is unlikely to come to fruition, says an analyst. Suggests it demonstrates one high level of interest in closed life funds, but this doesn't mean the approach will be taken seriously. Swiss Re and Lloyds TSB declines to comment, and AXA was not immediately available for comment. Lloyds TSB closed Friday at 581p. (MDO) ... |
