Wanda gets even wackier

AFish Called Wanda (1988) is one classic comedy by pedigree as well as achievement. Star John Cleese, who wrote the screenplay, arranged for Charles Crichton, who had directed the great 1951 Ealing Studio comedy The Lavender Hill Mob,_ to direct _Wanda_ at the age of 77. Cleese had to pose as co-director to appease the insurance folks, but it was Crichton's game, and, in one commentary on this week's two-disc set, the actor pays tribute to the veteran's eye for just the right angle. ...
