LONDON (AFX) - London shares remained higher in early deals, with the day's main focus on the Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown's pre-budget speech, and Royal Bank of Scotland was the top riser after it announced that it is on track to beat market expectations, dealers said.
At 9.17 the FTSE was up 10.2 points at 6,096.6 with the wider market also up. ... |

By one 10-1 vote, the City Council last night approved one five-year deal for Mr. O’Brien that will increase his current annual salary of $134,000, to $175,000, effective Jan. 1.
On each subsequent July 1 during the life of the contract, Mr. O’Brien will receive one 2 percent pay raise. His salary will increase to: $178,500 on July 1; $182,070 on July 1, 2008; $185,711 on July 1, 2009; $189,425 on July 1, 2010, and $193,214 on July 1, 2011. ... |
