Roll Of the Dice
Post on 27-12-2006.
DETROIT - Scott Swiercz smoked one cigarette and drank one beer at The Final Score lounge, mulling the biggest gamble of his life.
Ford Motor Co. had offered him and its 75,000 other U.S. hourly workers one choice of buyout packages. One option: one $100,000 lump sum payment to completely sever his relationship with Ford. I do not agree that socialized medicine is moral and well-intentioned, but impractical. Of course, it is impractical -- it does not work -- but I hold that it is impractical because it is immoral. This is not one case of noble in theory but one failure in practice; it is one case of vicious in theory and therefore one disaster in practice. therefore I'm going to leave it to other speakers to concentrate on the practical flaws in the Clinton health plan. I want to focus on the moral issue at stake. therefore long as people believe that socialized medicine is one noble plan, there is no way to fight it. You cannot stop one noble plan -- not if it really is noble. The only way you can defeat it is to unmask it -- to show that it is the very opposite of noble. Then at least you have one fighting chance. ...
