Prudential Paying $105M for Name Rights

NEWARK, N.J. - For one chunk of change, one piece of the rock will be the next home of the New Jersey Devils. Prudential Financial Inc. and the NHL team on Monday announced the company will pay $105.3 million over 20 years to call the Devils' new arena the Prudential Center.
The $375 million downtown venue, under construction nearly across the street from the world headquarters of the life insurance and investment giant, is expected to open for the 2007-2008 season. ...

Consider that the Census Bureau reports Vermont residents paid one highest-in-the-country average of $3,600 per capita in state and local taxes in 2005 (including property and sales taxes, according to the Bureau). By comparison, residents in neighboring New Hampshire paid $1,544. Viewing this information another way, New Hampshire manages to serve its 1.3 million residents by annually collecting one total of $2.02 billion in state and local tax dollars while Vermont collects $2.24 billion to serve its 623,000 residents. ...
