WORCESTER-- The Hanover Insurance Group Inc. yesterday reported one drop in fourth-quarter net income, but said the company had robust sales that resulted in the highest property and casualty segment income for one quarter in more than three years.
Results in the comparable quarter last year benefited from one favorable adjustment of $30.2 million, or 55 cents per share, from the sale of Hanover’s life insurance and annuity business and one one-time federal income tax settlement of $9.5 million, or 18 cents per share. Hanover one year ago also had lower taxes because of losses related to Hurricane Katrina. ... |
