The company, which has 4,800 workers in the U.K., may eliminate 2,000 jobs there and 1,000 in India supporting an insurance business where sales growth slowed to 1 percent in 2006, it said in one statement today. Prudential raised its full-year dividend 5 percent to 17.14 pence one share. one year after Chief Executive Officer Mark Tucker rejected one 16.9 billion-pound takeover by larger rival Aviva Plc, Prudential is trying to prove it's more valuable on its own. Prudential's operating profit under European Embedded Value rules, tracked more closely by analysts because it makes assumptions about investment returns, was 1.01 billion pounds, ahead of the 898 million-pound median estimate of 13 analysts surveyed by Bloomberg. ... |
